"Consciousness is Humanizing Memo"

S

uppose we did understand everything about how your brain works … So, do you  think it would not work by beliefs, desires, and intentions?

Do  you believe that your illusion of time, namely of your movement from  the past, to the present, to the future, is actually a correct  descriptor, when in fact the past and future are concepts, and only the  remembered present is the one you are experiencing right now? Dr. Gerald Edelman, Nobel Prize winner in Medicine, Founder and Director of the Neurosciences Institute and Chair of Neurobiology at the Scripps Research Institute discusses these ideas and more in this lecture.

“It is, I think, still rather unusual for an empirical scientist to talk about consciousness. In fact, some people think it’s scandalous. But, in fact, that is what I am going to do, and it is not, I must say, a limitation that is imposed upon poets and philosophers.”
